Fall Decor around Our Humble Haven

Here are a few glimpses of autumn around.......

The Living Room

Acorn Close Up

What really makes this arrrangement are the two cuties in the pic - my niece & nephew.

This arrangement came from items I already had around the house.  What started this project was the need for a frame.  I didn't have the right size so I improvised.  The photo is just slid down the side of a hollow glass cylinder and then filled with pine cones, swirly dried stems, and an acorn.

Moving on to the coffee table, or in our case the trunk.

Close Up

A little blurry, but still kind of cool.

This arrangement is made of a mirror I got from Hobby Lobby for another project I ended up not doing.  It was half price and I think I paid around $10.  The fall looking orange berry twig wreath I got from my mom years ago.  The iron container is actually a candle holder I got from Hobby Lobby (you'll soon notice I have a Hobby Lobby obsession).   It's filled with pinecones I already had, green & red acorns, and coppery balls.  The latter two -you guessed it, from Hobby Lobby.  By the way, I'm not affiliated with the store in any way just like their selection and prices.

The Kitchen

See my husband's enormous KU Basketball poster on the fridge.

This arrangement was inspired by my thoughtful husband who brought me home the flowers from our local flower shop's $5 Friday sale.  He brought me flowers and @ a good price.  Gotta love him!  I stuck the flowers in a cylinder vase left over from wedding decorations.  Then I sat the vase inside one of the coffee tins from my collection above my kitchen cabinets.  I think I've only bought one of the tins myself, all the rest were given to me by family members.  The wrapping around the flowers was made by tearing up a paper grocery bag.  I sat the coffee tin on top of one of my kitchen trivets.  Then I added a glass coffee jar filled with coffee beans and a votive candle.  On the other side is a birdhouse given to me by my Grandma (with a $1 price tag on the bottom) and a toilet paper pumpkin on a candle holder.  I got the super cute pumpkin project off of The Sweet Life here if anyone is interested.

My First Blog

So here it goes, my first blog entry.  I've enjoyed looking at others' blogs on decorating, couponing, cooking, and family so much it inspired me to do one of my own.  Where do I start?

…..I guess at the front door.

My husband and I have lived in our first home for 6 years now and have really not stopped redecorating or remodeling from day one. I'm fortunate to have a husband that gives me free reign with decorating and design. (Apart from the enormous KU Jayhawk basketball poster that's plastered on front of our fridge, I get to make the rest of the decorating decisions in all ten rooms of our two story house.  So, I've learned to live with his refrigerator decor.) At times he doesn't understand where I'm going with my ideas, but usually likes them in the end. At least he says he does because he's one smart guy! I will be posting pictures of our house in the future (excuse my amateur photography) along with some inspiration from others and maybe a recipe or two. I hope you enjoy visiting my blog as much as I've enjoyed visiting others.
